Heavenly Chocolate
On June 9th, 2012, Andrea Sanfillippo and Jeremy Funkhouser tied the knot at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oakland. The new “Mr. and Mrs.” are a match made in heaven.
For Andrea, celebrating her marriage to the man of her dreams became a reality with the help of Trends to Traditions.
Colors of pale blue, navy, and chocolate represented the heavenly skies and of course, the couple’s passions: Chocolate! In unique fashion, the couple utilized multiple floors at the Duquesne Club. Family and friends were able to enjoy a splendid dinner in one room fit for a king, while dancing, drinks and desserts were relished on another level. The dance area was lit with natural candlelight as well as special effects in shapes of clouds, stars, and blue wall washes.
When drifting into the Duquesne Club’s Fountain Room, one would think that they were surrounded in a divine fantasy as linens of soft blue, gold and silver glistened in the candlelit space while images of clouds were projected onto the gorgeous high ceilings.
Classic bouquets of roses and peonies fashioned by Gerard Boeh gave off a sweet aroma that subtly accented the romantic atmosphere. Even the tables’ names were creatively named, such as “Whipped Dream”, “Caramel Wonder”, and “Heavenly Ever After”.
Since Andrea and Jeremy both have a sweet tooth, they made sure that the dessert bar was extravagant. It featured favorite cookies and pastries of the bride and groom including theme-colored macaroons as well as peanut butter buckeyes and sugar cookies. The dramatic ice sculpture of heaven’s beaming rays was placed in the center of the cookie table. The candy table also featured blue, white and silver wrapped sweets adding to the evening’s affair.
There was an espresso bar allowing guests to heap whipped cream atop of their warm beverages to mirror fluffy clouds. Every aspect incorporated heaven and chocolate. Even the drinks tied in with the theme and sealed the night off with a “Cherub’s Kiss” as the heavens and the earth celebrated a beautiful couple’s marriage.
The stature and service of the reception venue and their staff went above and beyond, making each guest feel at home. Elizabeth Craig, photographer, captured their love as it exuded not only from Andrea and Jeremy, but also from their friends and family as they witnessed this special event in the couple’s lives. A truly beautiful couple makes an even more beautiful wedding. And they were heaven sent to work with!

“Rolling by the river…to the sweet tune of Surrae’s Song”
As a gentle river breeze glided across the guests’ faces who were waiting in anticipation for the bride to walk down the aisle, one couldn’t help but notice why Surrae chose this charming, backyard escape as a place to marry her high school sweetheart, Adam. From the romantic ambience of an intimate enclosure that Surrae’s grandparents are proud to call home to the cloudless sky complimenting the homemade pink and brown décor, the newlyweds had a more than perfect day to tie the knot on August 18th.
A glorious day it was indeed for this young couple, as both the Shotts and Field families were seated on the pink and brown linen covered hay bales, sheltered by a canopy of trees, pleased and eager to see two people say, “I do”. The ceremony was like an enchanted forest, reminiscing what every girl has envisioned as a child for what her wedding would be like: the sun was out, the birds were chirping, the darling handcrafted decorations that the bride made herself, every aspect of this event flattered one another, especially Surrae glowing with radiance as her grandfather escorted her to join her husband-to-be. As the harmony between the sounds of nature and the tune of the song that Adam wrote for Surrae while they were dating beautifully blended together, the wedding turned out to be pure bliss.
What made their wedding even more unique was that Surrae and Adam decided to further reinforce the idea of two families becoming one, so they fashioned a new last name by combining both of theirs together: Shotts and Field= Shield. How creative! Also the pink and brown ‘southern jazz’ theme and decorations were all selected and handmade by Surrae and the bridesmaids, adding flare and showing their hard work put into making this day picturesque. For Mrs. Shield, she was able to transform her ideas of her ideal wedding into an exquisite reality!

Heaven is a place on Earth for a bride on her wedding day
When floating into a glowing room full of dimly lit candles and soft pinkish purple lights accented with glistening silver decor, one would assume that this space was something that could be only found in a dream, however for this lucky bride, Natalie Yannotti, it was transformed into a reality thanks to Trends to Traditions’ sister company, Wedding Design North. Focusing on all of the visual elements of the wedding and reception, WDN assisted Natalie with making her important day come to life as she envisioned a heavenly romance theme to compliment her dream come true, which was the moment when Natalie knew she was going to spend the rest of her life with Jason Tyler.
This beautiful couple married at First Baptist Church in Oakland on August 25th where the entire ceremony and reception were filled with an aura of pure love. What distinguished this wedding besides the fact that it was planned by Wedding Design North, was Natalie’s enthusiasm put into preparing an unforgettable day; right off the bat she knew what she wanted her wedding to be like, which resulted in being utterly divine. With a color scheme of satiny ivory, silver, deep eggplant and pink, the reception room was transformed into heaven on earth. Candlelight and rose petals were scattered everywhere. The twinkle of velvety lights that brushed the edges of the sweetheart table. The sweet arrangement of blush roses, lilies and hydrangeas that served as centerpieces. Everything in essence tied together so nicely!
These newlyweds were not only blessed to have found each other, but also the opportunity to make their wedding day so spectacular! The passionate theme and every inch of the event were vividly divine!

All Star Event
One thing us “Pittsburghers” are known for is our love of sports. When we met Ronald and Reba, we knew right off the bat it was going to be one spectacular wedding. Reba certainly hit a home run while attending the University of Pittsburgh, because as she was playing softball, she was also falling in love with a star basketball player! This All Star Duo decided to tie the knot on May 27th, 2012. They said “I Do” in the Smithfield United Church of Christ, a gorgeous historic church filled with magnificent architecture. They then made sure that none of their guests rode the bench for their stunning reception! The reception was held at Jay Verno Studios in the South Side. This venue is one of our favorites because of the creative freedom that is available! It’s similar to a blank canvas and allows each event’s true colors to show and every little detail to really pop! Speaking of colors and details, the whole room was adorned with deep pink lighting, complimented by the soft glow of candlelight. The couple’s true passions were also seamlessly incorporated into the night. Their team jerseys were hung on display for guests to admire as they chowed down on some delicious late night ballpark food! Their escort cards were designed to look like admission tickets to a basketball game, and all of the table names were places on the University of Pittsburgh campus. Even their menu cards were tied into the subtle sports theme! The colorful flowers displayed throughout the room added that extra pop of color to really add to the glamorous atmosphere. The couple’s very own cheering section {their friends and family} were able to dress up and take some candid photo’s in the photobooth, which were then able to be watched in real-time on the flat screen TV in the ballroom! They then enjoyed the perfectly made pink cupcakes, created by a friend of the Bride! Trends to Traditions Event Coordinator for this event, Kim Peters, said: “The sports theme was so perfect for the couple. With Ronald being a professional basketball player and Reba being a professional softball player all of the details were perfectly attuned to their style. Ronald is from the Dominican Republic and everything from their food to the music had a little Dominican flavor to it. Between the Dominican influence and the sports background their special day really accentuated who they are. Their guests had a wonderful time and didn’t want to leave at the end of the night.”
We think this event was definitely in a league of its own with all of its creative details and stunning outcome!

Town and Country
The rolling hills surrounding Southpointe Country Club provided the perfect backdrop for this couple’s big day, which also happened to be the 5 year anniversary from their first date. The country club, breathtakingly beautiful on its own, was transformed into a haven representing Brandy and Scott’s favorite hobbies and interests. With a color scheme of riveria blue, sage green, champagne, and ivory, along with table’s named after well-known ski resorts and golf courses around the country, we were able to showcase Scott’s love of golf and Brandy’s avid skiing background. The escort cards, coordinating with the table names, helped to lead guests to their destination for the evening. On the escort table sat a gorgeous ice sculpture of a tall vase with an elaborate floral arrangement. Gold Chiavari chairs complete with a perfectly placed white bow offered a charming touch that helped to tie the details together flawlessly. Luscious flowers were placed throughout the ballroom, helping to create a romantic ambience along with the soft up lighting in the corners of the room. Before entering the ballroom, guests enjoyed a poolside cocktail hour, complete with color-changing orbs floating in the water. Trends to Traditions Event Coordinator said: “The days leading up to their wedding were met with a little bit of hesitation and uncertainty regarding the weather, and how this would mix with their outdoor, poolside cocktail hour and golf course landscape for photographs. But the event went off without a hitch, and Brandy and Scott even had a beautiful photo opp with a double rainbow. In my years with Trends to Traditions, I have never seen a rainbow on a wedding day, let alone a double one, that was so prominent and complete. With everything said and done, Brandy and Scott’s wedding was one of the most beautiful events I have had the pleasure of working on, and their love for each other was incredibly obvious to all who attended and worked that evening. The crowd was very lively, leading to a packed dance floor for most of the evening-something I always attribute to a good time at a wedding! All in all, Brandy and Scott are a great couple, and I’m so honored to have had the opportunity to help make their vision a reality.”

Perfectly Pink
“Think Pink” was the theme for this lovely affair. This wedding was like something out of a fairytale, offering a soft pink palette with simple elegance. Rose petals were spread throughout the reception, tying each room together and creating a soft, subtle ambience. The luscious flowers were nothing short of stunning. Their cake was created with dazzling cut-out designs replicating delicate lace, accompanied by beading along each tier and blooming flowers. They were able to curb everyone’s sweet tooth with an impressive display of cookies. Their escort cards were scripted in beautiful calligraphy, making them an instant keepsake for guests. The Edgeworth Club is nothing short of flawless: from the breathtaking chandeliers and grand staircase to the ever-so-helpful staff. Day Director, Katy Simovski, said she “was mostly impressed with the charm of the reception site. It was the perfect fit for this couple and their color scheme.” Not only were the newlyweds glowing with love and happiness, but the ballroom was, as well! The soft pink lighting really set the mood and created an intimate, romantic atmosphere for the evening. This wedding was the perfect example of elegance and beauty. With the subtle pink background colors, guests were able to focus all their attention on the love shared between the newlyweds!
